  • Violation: reclosing an entrance
  • Location: Salfit governorate
  • Date:  March 17, 2016
  • Perpetrators: Israeli Occupation Forces
  • Victims:  residents of the governorate

Details:

In synchronization with the killing incident of two young men from Beit Fajjar, south Bethlehem; more specifically at the entrance of Ariel colony, Israeli Occupation Forces closed  on March 17, 2016 the northern entrance of Salfit via iron gate in a step considered collective punishment on residents of Salfit. The claimed stabbing attack was the occupation's pretext , under which the closure was carried out. Not only, the Israeli government did that to satisfy the colonists of Ariel that is founded opposite to Salfit's northern entrance.

The closure will cause a dilemma in terms of transportation and emergency cases of health conditions. Residents will be forced to take another route that is 12km longer than the original one .

It should be marked that the northern entrance of Salfit was closed in the aftermath of the uprising in 2000. Thirteen years later, the entrance was reopened but with a firm control of the Israeli occupation. The road is of high importance to the area as an economic revenue.
